Christmas Party 2017 at the Philippine National School for the Blind

James MacKay Foundation’s (JMF) annual Christmas Party at the Philippine National School for the Blind (PNSB) was held last December 21, 2017 hosted by the tandem of JMF Director Mark Lester Lico and Assistant Secondary Schools Principal II, Officer-in-Charge of PNSB Ms. Corazon D. Salvador

This year’s Christmas Party theme was “Sharing Love, Changing Lives.” The program started with the doxology lead by the PNSB Glee Club followed by a nationalistic song sang by one of the visually impaired faculty members of PNSB. Lots of performances during the Christmas Party were presented by the PNSBians such as song and dance numbers.

A competition called “TUNOG TAO” was also held during the party. One of the mechanics of this competition was the sound to be produced should come from their body parts, as the title suggests. 3 groups competed for the championship title; Group 3 won the competition.

Each performance consisted of a song and a dance number accompanied by their colorful costumes and props. This competition really showcased PNSBians talents, not only when it comes to singing and dancing but also their imagination and presentation. A raffle draw for the whole PNSB campus was also held including the teaching and non-teaching staff of the school.

Teamwork and cooperation were shown by the PNSBians during the games held at the party some of it were Hotdog-Eating Contest for the Kinder students, Simon Says for the whole PNSB campus wherein the hosts would ask the students to group themselves into numbers of people, and Ihaw-Ihaw game where the students would use a fan to blow the fish printed on a paper to reach the other side of the ground.

For this year’s gift-giving, JMF had prepared P.E. shoes for the students and groceries for their families. MGE also gifted MacKay Bana Charcoal for the students and their famiies.

Different values and characteristics were seen during this event and James MacKay Foundation is just so proud and glad to be a part of this journey with Philippine National School for the Blind.

Wellness Event | DARE TO CARE: “Gain the ability to heal yourself and others”

DARE TO CARE: “Gain the ability to heal yourself and others”

A wellness event was held last August 30, 2017 at The Third Eye Wellness 6/F, 20th Drive Corporate Center, BGC. This event consisted of ThetaHealing with Ms. Sanaiyah Gurnamal and Gong Bath Healing Sound Meditation with Ms. Rosan Cruz.

Through this event, the participants are now knowledgeable on how ThetaHealing and Gong Meditation helps people transform the mind, body, and soul. They are not only able to help themselves, but they are also able to help others by imparting their knowledge and thoughts to their family and friends who will definitely benefit in these activities.

According to Ms. Sanaiyah Gurnamal, ThetaHealing can change the belief systems and emotions of a person. These belief systems and emotions perpetuate different diseases and illnesses in the body making a person carry extra weight, have a lot of fear and resentments, abuse his own body, and limit manifesting and abundance.

She has also mentioned how some diseases and illnesses are just some of the causes of a person’s way of thinking. It starts when a person entertains negative thoughts that draw negative emotions. Through these negative emotions, a negative energy is entertained which causes negative vibes to the physical body of a person welcoming different diseases and illnesses. She shared that if a person entertains positive thoughts in the morning, everything else follows. By entertaining positive thoughts, a person attracts positive emotions that welcomes a positive energy making the physical body of a person excited and motivated throughout the day.

Ms. Sanaiyah also had a mini session with two of the participants of the activity, Mr. Ali and Ms. Angel. Both participants had experienced ThetaHealing. They shared how they feel much better right after their sessions.

After ThetaHealing, a powerful Gong Bath Healing Sound Meditation was also experienced by the participants. Ms. Rosan Cruz played the gong for 30 minutes. She mentioned how ThetaHealing and Gong Bath Healing Sound Meditation go together very well. She also shared how these two can be interchangeable, one can go with ThetaHealing first and then have the gong meditation while others choose to go with gong meditation first then go with ThetaHealing afterwards. Other people prefer gong meditation over ThetaHealing for they do not want to verbalize their thoughts so they release through the sound.

All proceeds of this wellness event will go to the foundation’s main beneficiary, the Philippine National School for the Blind.

“No Child Left Behind”

“Philippine National School for the Blind will never be left behind in the wilderness of nothingness,” said Assistant Secondary School Principal II, OIC of PNSB Mrs. Corazon B. Salvador during the 47th Foundation Day of Philippine National School for the Blind, James Mackay Foundation’s main beneficiary.

This year’s foundation day celebrates the theme: “PNSB at 47: One family, one community, hand-in-hand for a happy, safe and healthy society.” The PNSB Glee Club and Dance Troupe showcased their talents as they commemorate their 47th foundation day together with the teaching and non-teaching staff of PNSB and James MacKay Foundation.

“What we can promise is not only 47 years, but we promise that as long as we exist, as long as we are here, the foundation is here to help you and support you because we want to see you, the students, to be successful,” shared James MacKay Foundation Director Mark Lester Lico during the anniversary greeting. At the moment, PNSB has a total of 77 learners and a total of 29 enrollees in the ALS (Alternative Learning System) Program. PNSB believes that these enrollees has an option to continue their studies even if they have dropped out of school before. With this, PNSB’s campaign is very much aligned with the foundation’s cause, “no child left behind.”

MOVIE SCREENING FOR A CAUSE

As Steve from “Wonderwoman” shared, “If you see something wrong happening in the world, you can either do nothing or you can do something.” People of all ages did their part and supported James Mackay Foundation’s movie for a cause “Wonderwoman” last June 4, 2017 at Century City Mall in Makati. These people enjoyed the movie and also spent time to help the foundation’s beneficiary – Philippine National School for the Blind. A cinema of the Century City Mall was jam-packed as the crowd were excited to see Wonderwoman in action. A video presentation was also seen by the audience for them to be given an overview of where their money would go to. This presentation included an animation of the livelihood centers to be built for the foundation’s beneficiaries.
Well-known people and sponsors graced the event to support James Mackay Foundation’s beneficiary, the Philippine National School for the Blind and its students. PBA Legends Nic Belasco with his wife former Bb. Pilipinas Miss World Mafae Yunon.

Belasco, Harvey Carey with his wife Ember Carey, and Ali Peek with his wife Roices Naguit also came to watch and support with their children. Miss JM dela Rama, a blogger, attended the event, too.
This event would not be possible without the help and support of the following sponsors: Mackay Green Energy Inc., East West Bank, Ramen Metro, Bless Okiniiri, Buensuceso Sondia Construction Corporation, Sir Williams Hotel, Marriott Hotel, Tasty Tucker, Parenting Emporium, Marco Polo Hotel, The City Club, Johnson & Johnson, and New Era.

Antiope said to Diana, “You are stronger than you believe. You have greater powers than you know.” These visually impaired students from Philippine National School for the Blind, Germaine Arante and Jackielyn Pinazo, showed their powers and how talented they are as they sang a song welcoming the movie-goers before the movie started.

Wonderful Moms

One cannot simply deny how strong the bond between a mother and her child can be. Last May 7, 2017, Wonderful Moms was made possible by Century City Mall together with James Mackay Foundation Inc. and Philippine National School for the Blind to celebrate the mothers for being the superheroes we all need.

One of the fun activities during the event was when a number of 14 mothers stood in a line and waited for their kids to recognize them. Each kid walked down the line as they were blindfolded using only their senses of touch and smell. The exciting part of the event was the anticipation of the mothers to be recognized by their own child which shows how unbreakable the connection between a mother and her child can be.
Celebrity moms and wives of some PBA players also enjoyed and attended the event.

Lara Quigaman, Miss International 2005 and wife of Marco Alcaraz, was also present with her child, Noah. Alexis Urbiztondo, wife of PBA player Josh Urbiztondo and the owner of Hula Hands Philippines, also graced the event with her two children. Wife of PBA player Harvey Carey who is a writer, interior designer and a “mom-preneur,” November Carey, also attended the event with her two children.

Mothers from Philippine National School for the Blind were also present to spend their time with their kids and other mothers on that special day. Rosita Baltazar, a mother of 4, was with her visually impaired child Nikka. Deborrah Benitez was present and is a solo parent to Gabriel Benitez who is a junior high school student of Philippine National School for the Blind. Leah Monte de Ramos graced the event with her child, Lerry, who is a grade 10 student of Philippine National School for the Blind.

Nina Camacho, mother of The Travelling Tots, talked about parenting during the event. She blogs about her travel and trips and wants to show the parents how travelling can be fun with their kids. ABS-CBN also featured the personal stories of the celebrity moms.

The mothers and their children experienced how the visually impaired kids felt their whole lives of not seeing their moms. These celebrity moms felt a whole new other level of being a mother and a superhero in one.

“James MacKay, founder of James MacKay foundation”

The main goal of the foundation this year is to widen its cause, and since the work and network of the James MacKay foundation is expanding rapidly, opening a new office that is fully functional was a priority. When the office was opened this march with its young and trendy vibe, it provided a fresh environment for the foundation’s team to function more and work comfortably. The team was more focused and diligent to formulate ideas, to come up with programs and to talk and impart inspiration to each member of the team. The office will also serve as a place where sponsors, donors and organizations that would love to work with the foundation can come to talk and get to know the foundation well.

"James MacKay Foundation Inc.  Dinner in the Dark"

“There’s only one thing that my mind thinks and heart feels right now, thank you Lord” -Jerson Nolasco

“You’ve eliminated one of our senses but everything else was enhanced, thank you for letting us see this in a different light”  - Rovilson Fernandez

James MacKay Foundation Inc. celebrated love month through a special Valentines event called the ‘Blind Date’. An experience that has a powerful message for our guests on appreciating life even more.

‘Blind Date’ in relation to the main beneficiary of the foundation, Philippine National School for the Blind (PNSB), is an event where participants experience having a meal without their sight. Known around the world the concept for high end restaurants, taking away distractions for guests to experience special cuisines made by the chefs. For us we used the concept to help spread awareness that we need to Dare to Care for people with disabilities, most especially the visually impaired.

With this our outcome was a success, our guests were thrilled and amazed by the experience. It was definitely a fulfilment and eye opener to all on how beyond blessed we all are. Our students whom serenaded the guests also extended their appreciation and expressed how happy they are to support their dreams.

“We do not want you to pity us because this is our reality, we do appreciate your support on helping us live and complete our education by attending these wonderful events.” – Gian (16yrs, student of PNSB)

We would like to extend our gratitude to all the guests that participated, Mr Joey Garcia from Ramen Metro, Mr. Nic Belasco from The City Club, The Parenting Emporium, Mrs Lina Dela Cruz of Liquid Gold and Ms. Mildred Damole of Philippine Wine Merchants for supporting us. The foundation and Philippine National School for the Blind express our gratitude on making the event a success.
